Nina C. Peláez
is a poet, educator, artist, and cultural producer currently based in Maui, where she works as associate director of the Merwin Conservancy, the former home and garden of the poet W.S. Merwin. Born in Las Vegas, Nevada and raised in Brooklyn, NY she has poems published or forthcoming in Narrative, Prairie Schooner, Rattle, swamp pink, Electric Literature, Pleiades, RHINO, Radar Poetry, wildness, Sho Poetry Journal, the Baltimore Review and elsewhere. She was recently awarded the Coniston Prize by Radar Poetry, judged by January Gill O'Neil, and the Key West Literary Seminar named her a Workshop Fellow with finalist recognition for the Scotti Merrill Emerging Writer Award. Her work has also been supported by workshops and residencies through Tin House and Yaddo. Drawing on her experiences as an adoptee and the child of a Cuban exile, Peláez frequently explores in her work themes of displacement, diaspora, filial grief, transformation and resilience. She is currently working on the manuscript of her first poetry collection.
