The Wind Whipped Tears into My Eyes
        a found poem: The Unabridged Journals of Sylvia Plath

A softspoken God said he couldn't bear
looking at my stump of a soul—
that I was becoming something dark and bitter

and he felt wary
of the growing crowd of tearful stars in my eyes.

Then he pushed his body
against me and he touched his lips to mine.
It was not romantic or delightful;

it was something cold
that broke me. I am alone now—

an unassuming creature wading through a field
of yellow grass—and how
I remember breaking from that incurable kiss.

The white light in him blinked
and scurried, raveling around me.
