Today's poem is by Jim Daniels
Elegy for the Exquisite
Loneliness trumped loveliness
in that card game we inventedbut never named. One letter
is all it took. The tree out backrefuses to be sad, despite
dropped leaves brittle beneath it.October yearns for November
to better translate your dis-appearance. What's left
after all the bluffing on lovewith the best of inventions?
Oh, those hearts looked so goodon you.
