French Entrance
All the best deathtraps are spoken for.
It's remarkable how quickly
one becomes accustomed to the taste.
I am behaving like an astronaut
jonesing for a Quarter Pounder.
Have you ever asked your doctor
if Ennui™ is right for you?
When it comes to the truth, I believe
everything in moderation.
I believe in trying, and I almost do.
Lust's termites did a real job
on the structural integrity of my future
which might be a metaphor, something
about perseverance (if you're a termite),
though more likely it explains
why love's architecture is badly flawed.
Because my alibi was constructed
with toothpicks. Because I'm not
a delicate flower. Because flower
is so general, and no self-respecting flower
wants to unspecifically adored.
I'm waiting for my coronation,
for my habits to be crowned as ritual.
I'm face down on the sidewalk.
I wish I had farther to fall.
