Donald Levering has worked as a teacher on the Diné reservation, groundskeeper, and human services administrator. Among his recent honors are the Carve Poetry Contest Winner, the Tor House Robinson Jeffers Prize, and the Literal Latté Prize. Breaking Down Familiar is his 16th poetry book. Garrison Keillor featured his work in a "Writer's Almanac" podcast. Levering's poems have appeared in Beloit Poetry Journal, Bloomsbury Review, Columbia, Commonweal, Harpur Palate, Hiram Poetry Review, Hollins Critic, Hunger Mountain, Poet & Critic, Poet Lore, Southern Poetry Review, Stand, and Valparaiso Poetry Review. He lives in Santa Fe, New Mexico.
