Today's poem is by Bruce Bond
Book of Dolls 2
So tell me about your childhood,
the analyst asks the doll on the sofa.
And the doll looks back at him like,
Are you serious, and he looks back like,
No need to get defensive, and then, more
defensively, Consider this a safe space.
And you know now, it is not. I mean,
one minute you are no one, your head
full of cotton, and then, all the empty
chairs turn to you, the way a voice turns
toward an auditorium, and no one's there,
just a giant dark, and suddenly a doll
talks to you, somewhere in the emptiness,
in the silence that is your life as a child.
