Today's poem is by Elise Hempel
Bride and Groom
In the shifting afternoon's dim gray
I watch them walk together to the store
down the sidewalk, side-by-side, so slow,
one of them pushing their little cart along,
their bowed white heads, their shuffling steps, bent shoulders, and see them on a different, distant day:
both with brown hair, their walk a little straighter
down another sidewalk long ago,
just starting out their lives as two, still young,
side-by-side then, one of them pushing the stroller.
