Today's poem is by David Budbill

When the Tamaracks Turn Yellow

When the tamaracks turn yellow
and the mountaintops are white,

after all the tourists have gone away—
because they think there is nothing left

to see—then those of us who stay, we
hunker down in sweet silence,

blessed emptiness, and
get ready for the coming snow.
