Final Notice

After every holiday
the coming back.
Every going forth
a risk. Every safe return
a victory, of sorts.
It 's like a death
and then a resurrection
back to the old haunts,
an extension of the visa
to remain temporarily
in this extraordinary country —
Daily Life.

Weeds everywhere,
the hedge gone wild,
the lawn luxuriantly
overgrown — reminders
that the coach continues on
when we get off — the post
piled up behind the door,
some bills marked Urgent!
some Immediate Attention!!
but thankfully the one
marked Final Notice!!!
not here yet.
