Today's poem is by Joyce Peseroff
No More Water
God so loved the world
but we don't love him back,
maybe don't even believeour fleabitten selves deserve affection
from a flea, let alone the Lord
of Hosts. We breedlike feral cats in a landfill
that know life is garbage
in various stages of decayand delight in the rat's raw morsel,
sheltering beneath a ziggurat
of tires too bald for the cunningbroker of rebuilts and retreads,
our greasy world waiting for rain.
