Tonight the Character of Death Will Be Played by Brad Pitt

Gentle reader, you are not Brad Pitt.
You're reading poetry and at this hour
Brad Pitt is likely not perusing poems
and certainly not this one. Therefore, you
are not Brad Pitt. You may be overweight,
less than gorgeous, wearing your pajamas,
and Brad Pitt's a lot more svelte than you
(and also better looking). But consider
for a moment if we skinned Brad Pitt,
as many may be loath or wont to do;
he would resemble the flayed muscleman
from a book of Renaissance anatomy,
De Humani Corporis Fabrica.
Fanciful drawings. For example, one
particular cadaver, let's call him Brad Pitt,
displays his muscles, prancing in a field.
That facial expression that Brad Pitt makes
is the same one you made today. In fact,
you share many muscles with Brad Pitt,
though his are surely bigger and more chiseled
than yours. Such bizarre drawings are a window.
It's how you know you have a spleen. One day,
that knowledge and Brad Pitt may save your life.
