Today's poem is by Andrew Michael Roberts

Trapeze Swinger

and sprung now
feverishly from its perch
as if it loves this alone,
a body becomes
a tattooed bird,
a bullet released, a
melancholy arc
ascending, vanishing above
the dangling lights
where its zenith awaits,
where for an instant
it slips soundlessly
into weightlessness
and inhabits it
like a secret,
hovering there, planetary,
infinite, alone —
until gravity gathers,
and feather and bone
fall away again, faltering,
centripetal,
meteoric,
uncurling just
as a collective
breath is caught below
and strung across
the silence
like a net.
and we all are saved.
