Today's poem is by Veronica Golos
Cost of It
Go beyond the past tense into the present.
They brought me a foot
and a carved ear, and told me
these were my enemies. Eat this, they said.
FIesh meets in my hands.
My teeth are scythes.
They said, You are emptier than air.
Now I pull hurricanes from mouths of the dead.
Now I crow, crawl into the pit of those
who spare me nothing.
