Today's poem is by Dante Alighieri, translated by Robert Pinsky
Paradiso I 54-63
I fixed my eyes on the sun-beyond our ways,
There many things are granted to be doneThat here are beyond our human faculties,
For that is the Place designed for humankind.
I endured it neither long, nor so short a timeThat I couldn't see it burn with an inner fire
As bright as molten iron, so that it seemed
Day had been added to day, as though the powerOf One who could have added a second sun
Had done so, to adorn the heavens.
