Rumi was born in the year 1297 and turns 800 this month. The United Nations has designated 2007 as "The Year of Rumi." His ecstatic poetry is enjoying a worldwide resurgence, and he has come to be considered the planet's great mystical poet.
Coleman Barks is Professor Emeritus at the University of Georgia. Later this year, his poems will appear in a Maypop book, Scrapwood Man. His collection of Rumi translations, Rumi: Bridge to the Soul, will also appear later this year from HarperSanFrancisco.
