Michael Pettit's books include The Writing Path, American Light, and Cardinal Points, which received the Iowa Poetry Prize. A nonfiction account of ranching in Texas and New Mexico, Riding for the Brand, is forthcoming from the University of Oklahoma Press. A National Endowment for the Arts fellowship winner, he has published work in anthologies and magazines throughout the United States. His teaching career includes positions at the University of Alabama, University of Massachusetts, Mount Holyoke College, and numerous writing conferences. He has founded and directed programs including the Mount Holyoke Writer's Conference and Santa Fe Writers Conference.
